Centrally located in the country town of Lumsden, the house is surrounded by secluded gardens yet is only a short walk to town services. A very comfortable and fully renovated house which offers the best accommodation in Lumsden for angling, cycling or hiking groups or for families and friends travelling through this beautiful part of New Zealand.

Oreti River House is a unique place to stay on the South Island of New Zealand. It provides very comfortable, self contained accommodation for up to 5 people in a quiet garden setting close to town services. The original villa has be extensively renovated to a high standard. It offers a fully equipped modern granite kitchen,3 bedrooms/2 bathrooms, lounge room with garden views and pebble fireplace, heat pump/air-conditioner and many other inclusions. All linen and towels supplied, Sky TV, DVD, DVD library and complementary internet services.
Very close to the middle reaches of the crystal clear Oreti River and also to the upper and middle reaches of the famous Mataura River. A short drive away from the trophy trout sections of the upper Oreti River. Near to the beautiful Mavora Lakes and convenient to Fiordland. It is a perfect place to enjoy trout fishing, tramping, cycling or sightseeing in one of New Zealand's most picturesque regions. The self contained holiday house is popular with local and overseas anglers who take advantage of Lumsdens central position which places it within one hours drive from 35 rivers, creeks, burns and lakes. Cyclists use the 'Around the Mountains Rail Trail" which winds into and out of Lumsden along the scenic Oreti River. Hikers or trampers access the nearby Fiordland, Mavora Lakes and Eyre Mountains Conservation Areas. Families and tourists enjoy the large quiet garden and location to nearby Queenstown, Invercargill, Te Anau and Gore.
The large private garden is surrounded by large mature hedges which enclose a large landscaped area full of New Zealand native plants and other flowering shrubs. It is home to many types of birds and has large areas of lawn. We have an outdoor dining area, fire pit and comfy outdoor seats. The garden is enjoyed by many guests as a place to relax and read books or play our outdoor games. We supply croquet and boules sets.
Only one hours drive from the International airport at Queenstown. Surrounded by sparkling rivers and towering mountains. Close to shops and services. Walking distance to the Oreti River home to large brown trout, rare birds and wide expanses of fresh air and stillness. A great place to explore, fish, picnic, walk, photograph or just unwind.

Great accommodation and fantastic trout fishing on the aqua blue Oreti River.
The Oreti River is my favourite fly fishing water- I come from Colorado for a month a year to enjoy its challenges and staying in Oreti River House is very relaxing and most enjoyable.
Sitting around the outdoor fire-pit at sunset while� discussing the past day's fly fishing was a highlight.
We thoroughly enjoyed playing croquet in the beautiful garden before having a lazy BBQ lunch.
Needed to stay longer, will definately come back next year!

Herb garden available to guests. New granite kitchen very enjoyable. King bed most comfortable. DVD library a bonus. Views of distant mountains. Absolutely great spot to see big expanses of Milky Way galaxy at night which shines in this part of the Southern Hemisphere.

Very close to fantastic brown and rainbow trout fishing. A fly fishing paradise. Rivers have abundant trout in crystal clear rivers in magnificent settings. Lumsden forms part of the 5 day Around the Mountains Cycle Trail that starts at Queenstown and ends at Kingston. Near to the majestic Fiordlands and Mavora Lakes Conservation areas. Lumsden is a very friendly, quiet country town in a central location.
