The private house is located in the friendly town of Lumsden only a few minutes walk from shops and services. The country town is centrally positioned in lush green Southland surrounded by farmland, rivers, lakes and mountains. Close to trout fishing, great walks, cycle trails and boating trips.

Rod and Wheel House is a meticulously renovated 4 bedroom house featuring rimu floors and paneling. It has very comfortable couches and high quality beds.We have 2 queen beds and 2 long single beds. A cot and high chair can be made available if needed. The bathroom has a nice deep bath, shower, toilet and basin, heated floor and heated towel rail. Gas hot water heating truely means you never run short of hot water. A second seperate toilet is also available. Complimentary unlimited wireless internet, digital TV, Sky TV with all channels, DVD with large eclectic DVD library. The lounge/dining/kitchen areas are open plan and are heated by a heat pump and a wood fired slow combustion heater. We supply a deep woodbox with complimentary wood.The house has a large covered outdoor dining area with a gas BBQ. Set in its own private garden but only a few minutes walk from the supermarket, pub, restaurants, bakery and other shops... The very comfortable house is ideally located for fly fishing groups, hiking and cycling parties and for families and friends travelling in Southland.
The country town of Lumsden is very quiet but has enough shops and cafes to make a holiday stay very pleasant. It is centrally located in the middle of green Southland. Surrounded by farmland, rivers, lakes and mountains. Perfect for trout fishing, cycling, walking or touring. Only one hours drive from the International Airport in Queenstown. Near to the famous Mavora Lakes Conservation Area and convenient to beautiful Fiordland.
The Oreti River flows through the back of Lumsden and is only a 7 minute walk from the house. Its crystal clear, aqua blue water home to large brown trout, ducks, rare seagulls, geese and other water birds. It is a very pleasant place to fish, walk or picnic.

Wow! In the last seven years that I have visited New Zealand, I've stayed in every type of accommodation from luxury self contained apartments to cheap and nasty caravan parks. Oreti River and Rod and Wheel Houses are by far the best places I have stayed. Both houses were very clean and comfortable, and being a chef, I was impressed at how well equipped the kitchen was. I will definitely be back. Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!!

Thank you so much for welcoming us- especially with 2 kids! We loved exploring the rivers, Lumsden shops and eateries and nearby towns. The fact that the house is so wonderful and there are plenty of games, movies and located in a charming town helped make our family vacation quite special.
Extremely comfortable and well equipped place to stay in a really great location. Fantastic array of fishing available from here and we've had a fabulous time through some days which were not the easiest fishing conditions. We look forward to returning.

Centrally located with an easy walk across the Town "Common" (park) to shops, the local Pub and restaurants. Private and quiet flower garden setting. Very nice undercover BBQ area which opens out to pretty garden. Chef services are available for an additional cost.
Great position to fish for trout in over 35 rivers which are within 1 hours drive from Lumsden. Convenient for fishing the famous Mataura, Oreti and Wakaia Rivers. Also located along the Around the Mountains Cycle Track and near to many fabulous day walks. Close to Fiordland and the Mavora Lakes. We have 2 bicycles which are available for hire.
